In its second major move in Denver this month, Burleson LLP announced that veteran oil and gas executive Gerald Brummett has joined the firm in the role of senior adviser – acquisitions and divestitures.

Brummett has more than 30 years of diverse experience in the oil and gas industry.  He was the manager of business development of Occidental Petroleum in Denver and has been the landman/manager of business development for several independent oil and gas companies throughout his career.  He has worked in nearly every major producing region of the country and has been involved in the acquisition or divestiture of a multitude of oil and gas properties in North America.

“Gerald brings a unique skillset to the firm, along with his deep and long-standing relationships with oil and gas executives throughout the energy industry,” said Rick Burleson, managing partner of the Houston-based energy law firm. “He’s got a lot of in-the-trenches experience – in both corporate and legal settings – and that translates to significant benefits for our clients.”

Brummett added, “This is an opportunity to work with a firm that’s clearly on the rise. Burleson is known for both its full service legal capabilities and its ability to deliver real-world skills to the energy industry.  I’m excited to be associated with such an outstanding firm and one that has such a great group of legal professionals.”

Brummett is president of West Land & Legal, a Golden, Colo., firm whose focus is mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, rights of way, permits, and regulatory matters. He is also vice president and managing partner of BHWXploration in Denver.

A graduate of Texas Tech, he is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen, Wyoming Association of Petroleum Landmen, and Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists.  Brummett also serves on the board of directors for the Denver Petroleum Club.

The addition of Brummett comes on the heels of the recent announcement that two veteran energy lawyers from Steptoe & Johnson, Adam Veltri and John Chadd, have joined Burleson’s Denver office in a major move seen as further strengthening the firm’s presence in the Rockies.
